Bob Melvin says A’s closer Blake Treinen worthy of award consideration

SEATTLE - If Blake Treinen finishes the season with an ERA at or below his current 0.81 mark, he will set a major-league record for a pitcher with a minimum of 75 innings.

And A’s manager Bob Melvin believes the A’s closer should be a postseason award candidate.

“It’s amazing, it really is,” Melvin said Monday. “And not only is he closing games, he’s pitching games that are tied, he’s pitching two-inning outings effectively and economically.
