DETROIT — A’s manager Bob Melvin has been around baseball for over 30 years, but he’s never been part of a team that’s going through a stretch of injuries like his squad is right now.
After Daniel Mengden flew back to Oakland to be examined by team doctors, no structural damage was found in his sprained right foot, but it was determined that he would have to be placed on the disabled list and miss his next scheduled start Wednesday. Chris Bassitt will be called up from Triple-A Nashville before Wednesday’s game to make the start.
