MESA, Ariz. – Between them, left-hander Felix Doubront and righty Chris Bassitt made five starts for the A’s.
Bassitt made all five. Doubront made the team out of spring training only to get injured in his final game. Bassitt made those five starts, then he was done.
Both men needed Tommy John-style ligament replacement surgery. Because of the injury and the long recovery time, they’ve become regular workout companions. Their arms are mending, but both are a long way from being ready to pitch again. So they throw to each other two days out of three, playing catch basically.
