The Athletics traveled to Goodyear Ballpark today for the latest tune-up against the Cleveland Guardians. Taking the mound today for the A’s was JP Sears, who is currently 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 13.1 innings this spring. He went up against 25-year-old righty Gavin Williams who is 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA in just eight innings going into today’s game.
Williams kept the A’s bats quiet until Lawrence Butler ripped a ground-rule double over the centerfield wall for the Athletics first hit of the afternoon. Brent Rooker followed that with his first home run of the spring to give the A’s a 2-0 lead.
