OAKLAND — With equal parts excitement and relief, Sean Manaea breezed through a 38-pitch bullpen session Saturday and is nearing a return from the disabled list with a shoulder strain.
Manaea last pitched on April 26, leaving after two innings having given up three earned runs and departing with tightness in his shoulder and a fastball velocity in the 88 miles-per-hour range, about four or five miles per hour shy of normal.
“I felt like I was trying to go 100 percent and everything felt, really, really good,” Manaea said. “I don’t know what the timetable is yet, but we’re going to discuss that and lay out a plan for the upcoming with week.
