Gossett is the odd-man out in the Athletics’ rotation and with two off-days coming up next week, the team have decided to deploy a four-man starting rotation.
Gossett got the start on Friday but struggled to contain the Angels’ offense, allowing five hits, five runs and striking out three in 3 2/3 innings. He lacked command for most of the outing and the Angels jumped all over him in the fourth inning.
“I’ll go down there and fine-tune everything and come back ready to go,” Gossett told Susan Slusser of the SF Chronicle.
Gossett faced similar struggles last season in his 18 starts with the A’s, going 4-11 with a 6.
