MESA, Ariz. – During Marcus Semien’s first two seasons in an Oakland A’s uniform, the shortstop committed 56 total errors, while the offensive side of his game remained a work in progress.
That teetering ship has long sailed over the horizon.

Semien, coming off a third-place finish in the 2019 American League MVP race (behind Mike Trout and Alex Bregman, respectively), has turned himself into one of the league’s quiet superstars with vast improvements on both sides of the baseball.
“Marcus has taken everything to another level. He’s been through the extremes of development at the major league level and coming out pretty well on the other side of it,” manager Bob Melvin said.
