At the one-quarter mark, A’s prospects aren’t looking good

SEATTLE – One quarter of the way through the 2017 season, the A’s are one-quarter of the way toward locking down a third consecutive last-place finish in the American League West after a 4-0 loss to the Mariners Wednesday night.

Seattle took two of three from the A’s after the Rangers, another troubled West franchise, swept Oakland. The A’s , now 40 games into a 162-game season, were in third place, 7½ games behind the Astros when the six-game road trip started. By going 1-5, the A’s are now fifth, 11½ games behind Houston and 1½ games behind the fourth-place Mariners.
