A’s young pitching talent teams up for strong effort in 3-2 win over Mets

NEW YORK – Right-hander Daniel Gossett and third baseman Matt Chapman provided an encouraging glimpse of the future in helping the A’s edge the Mets 3-2 on Sunday at Citi Field.

Gossett (2-5) limited the Mets to two runs and five hits in six innings. He walked two and struck out six in delivering his second consecutive strong start. Despite a 3-2 loss in his previous effort, he held Tampa Bay to three runs and seven hits in seven innings.

Chapman snapped a 2-2 tie when he belted a 2-0 pitch from Rafael Montero (1-7) over the fence in left with two outs in the seventh inning.
