ANAHEIM -- The A's will start left-hander Eric Surkamp on Friday instead of on his scheduled turn Saturday, manager Bob Melvin announced on Thursday. The A's will announce a Saturday starter after Thursday night's series opener against the Angels at Angel Stadium.
The A's, who have had only four healthy starters since Sean Manaea went on the disabled list June 14 with an elbow strain, have multiple options in play for Saturday's start.
One possibility is promoting Dillon Overton from Triple-A for his big league debut. Overton, the organization's No, 9 prospect and their second-round pick in the 2013 Draft, is 8-4 with a 3.
