A’s Stephen Piscotty diagnosed with form of skin cancer

A’s outfielder Stephen Piscotty underwent surgery to remove a melanoma from his right ear and will be out a few days while awaiting further results, the team announced Friday.

The 28-year-old had what the team called a successful surgical procedure by Dr Brian Parrett on Thursday at the California Pacific Medical Campus in San Francisco.

The A’s said a suspicious mole was discovered during a routine check with dermatologist Dr. Joseph Cho of Sutter Health. The biopsy came back positive for melanoma, a form of skin cancer. Dr. Parrett then removed the melanoma.
