Andrew Triggs, a converted reliever who was the A’s best starter through mid-May, had season-ending surgery to repair a torn left hip labrum on Friday.
Triggs told The Chronicle earlier this month that surgery was a possibility but would allow for him to be back throwing off the mound for the start of spring training.
Hip specialist Dr. Marc Philippon performed the surgery in Vail, Colo. Philippon has done similar procedures for A’s players Sean Manaea and Mark Canha along with numerous high-profile Olympic athletes, quarterback Kurt Warner, hockey star Mario Lemieux and former Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez.
