Vimael Machin shines to kick off 2B race
Maybe it isn’t fair to call it a race — second base is crowded, with Tony Kemp brought in as a veteran left-handed option to supplant right-handers Jorge Mateo and Franklin Barreto as possible platoon options. Machin came aboard in an A’s trade with the Philadelphia Phillies, who picked him up from the Chicago Cubs in the Rule 5 Draft at the Winter Meetings in December.
