MESA, Ariz. - A’s ace Sonny Gray, who is expected to miss the first several weeks of the season with a lat strain, will visit Dr. Anthony Romeo in Chicago on Monday, The Chronicle has learned.
Romeo is an internationally known latissimus dorsi expert who saved former Giants starter Jake Peavy’s career by repairing his torn lat muscle in 2010; Romeo also performed a similar surgery, now called “the Peavy procedure,” on former A’s reliever Fernando Rodriguez.
Gray is not a surgical candidate, however - if anything, he is hoping to get the all-clear to begin throwing again after being shut down for the past two weeks.
