OAKLAND – The A’s confirmed the signing of veteran left-hander Phil Coke to a minor league deal.
Coke, 32, began this season with the Chicago Cubs before being released. He caught on with Toronto but threw just 2 2/3 innings in the bigs, then declined an optional assignment and became a free agent.
Over parts of eight major league seasons, Coke is 22-27 with a 4.20 ERA in 401 appearances, all but 15 of those in relief. MLive.com reported that Coke has a July 10 opt-out clause he can exercise.
