ANAHEIM - Left-hander Sean Manaea left his start at Angel Stadium after just two innings Wednesday night, with his velocity taking a noticeable dip.
Manaea’s fastball usually registers in the 93-95 mph range and Wednesday, his velocity was no higher than 90 mph and he only hit that a handful of times. He did not seem to be in any discomfort while on the field but showed some consternation while talking to pitching coach Curt Young in the dugout after his second inning.
Oakland already is missing its top two starters, Sonny Gray (lat) and Kendall Graveman (shoulder), but Graveman is scheduled to come off the DL to start at Anaheim on Thursday while Gray is expected back next week at Minnesota.
