Sean Doolittle still has his instantly recognizable glove-chin tuck when he’s on the mound and, of course, his shaggy beard, but there’s something different about the A’s reliever this year: He’s wearing goggles on the mound.
He has glasses off the field now, too, after an eye exam that showed the vision in his right eye was 20-40. Doolittle decided against contact lenses because he figured getting used to them in the dry air and dust of Arizona would be challenging, so he opted for specs.
“No one recognized me for two or three days,” Doolittle said.
