An eight-man bullpen was becoming increasingly likely with A’s starting pitchers continuously struggling to pitch deep into games, but Jharel Cotton’s recent diagnosis of a sprained UCL in his pitching elbow pretty much guarantees it. The eighth bullpen spot figures to be a long relief man, with Raul Alcantara, Daniel Gossett, and Chris Bassitt among the competitors for the role.
