Chris Bassitt’s stay in Oakland didn’t last long: The A’s optioned the right-hander back to Triple-A Nashville before Sunday’s game and recalled outfielder Jake Smolinski from Triple-A.
Bassitt left a positive impression in his first major-league appearance since Tommy John surgery in 2016 with seven strong innings Saturday against the Royals. A’s manager Bob Melvin said Bassitt could be back soon if Trevor Cahill (Achilles) is unable to make his next start.
