A’s prospect affected by Parkland school shooting as alumnus

MESA, Ariz. — Oakland A’s pitching prospect Jesus Luzardo was heartbroken after hearing the news of Thursday’s deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Luzardo, 20, was born in Peru, but moved to Parkland at the age of two. He graduated from Douglas High in in 2016. After Thursday’s tragedy in which seventeen students and teachers were killed in what became the second-deadliest shooting at a U.S. public school, Luzardo is partnering with the Oakland A’s Community Fund to raise money for the families of the victims.

Here is the message Luzardo posted on the online fundraiser page:

“Posting this with a heavy heart as Parkland is somewhere I have been lucky enough to call home for the past 18 years of my life.
