The A's have called up outfielder Jake Smolinski from Triple-A Nashville to replace injured right fielder Josh Reddick, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday afte fracturing his left thumb the night before.
Reddick was injured sliding on an attempted steal of second during the A's 4-1 loss to the New York Yankees at the Coliseum. The A's haven't said how long Reddick will be sidelined, but expectations are at least a month.Reddick's injury is a damaging one for an A's team that appeared to be playing better after a woeful start to the month of May.
