OAKLAND — The A’s placed third baseman Matt Chapman on the disabled list Saturday and recalled second baseman Franklin Barreto from Triple-A Nashville.
A’s manager Bob Melvin said following an 8-4 loss Friday night against the Los Angeles Angels the move was coming. The A’s also optioned reliever Carlos Ramirez to Nashville and recalled right-handed pitcher Josh Lucas.
Chapman has a “hand contusion” which, according to Melvin, has no structural damage according to an MRI.
Chapman was batting .250 with 10 home runs and 26 RBI and had played in all 69 of the A’s games prior to yesterday.
