As anticipated, the A’s placed slugger Khris Davis on the 10-day DL on Wednesday and called up top prospect Franklin Barreto.
Davis, who leads the majors in homers since the start of the 2016 season, with 98, has a Grade 1 right groin strain. Typically, such injuries require 10 days to three weeks of recovery time.
Barreto’s stint will be his second with Oakland this season; he was up for four days in April and did not get an at-bat.
In addition, the team officially promoted Wednesday night starter Daniel Gossett, while also designating struggling reliever Wilmer Font for assignment.
