TORONTO - As expected, catcher Josh Phegley was placed on the disabled list with a left oblique strain on Thursday and Ryan Lavarnway was selected from Triple-A Nashville.
It’s unclear how much time Phegley will miss; oblique strains can be notoriously tricky but especially so with a physically demanding position such as catcher.
“Those things typically aren’t a short period of time,” manager Bob Melvin said. “He didn’t feel like it was that bad, but when you cool down and wake up the next day, it feels a little more significant. We’ll probably have a better idea in the next few days how long it’s going to be.
