The donation to Rep. Carey sticks out for a variety of reasons. For one, Fisher's largest donations have historically been of the dark money variety. In 2019, after years of lawsuits by ethics watchdogs, records released by court order revealed that Fisher had given $5 million to a group called "Americans for Job Security," which funded campaign ads against President Obama during his 2012 reelection campaign and lobbied against proposed tax increases in California.
