The A's made news Friday by optioning outfielder Billy Burns to Triple-A Nashville and calling up corner infield prospect Ryon Healy.
Burns hit just .234 in the first half and hasn't made the impact that he did in a breakout rookie season of 2015. On the A's last road trip, manager Bob Melvin hinted that Burns could start losing playing time to Jake Smolinski in the outfield.
This marks the first big league call-up for Healy, 24, who has enjoyed an outstanding season split between Double-A and Triple-A that earned him a spot in Sunday's Futures Game.
