A’s only run comes via balk in 8-1 loss to Miami

MIAMI - Yonder Alonso, the A’s breakout 2017 All-Star candidate, returned to his hometown Tuesday and he scored the first run of the game….on a balk.

That gift from Marlins starter Jose Ureña was all Oakland would get from the right-hander, who retired 14 batters in a row at one point in Miami’s 8-1 victory. It was the A’s first-ever loss at Marlins Park in four games there, and Oakland fell a season-high 10 games below .500 at 27-37, the worst mark in the league. The team is 9-24 on the road.

In the second, the A’s loaded the bases with one out when Alonso singled to center, Chad Pinder was hit by a pitch and Matt Joyce singled to left.
