A's offense disappears on day Eric Surkamp finally pitches well

OAKLAND -- The A's got the game they were hoping for from Eric Surkamp Sunday only to find out that they couldn't capitalize.

After making it through five innings just once in seven previous 2016 starts, Surkamp settled to keep the A's competitive by allowing just two runs in six innings, matching his big league high set in his first MLB game with the Giants on Aug. 27, 2011. He'd beaten Houston that day, but on Sunday, the Oakland offense could do nothing with Jeff Weaver, who allowed just two hits in a 2-0 Angels win.Weaver went the distance for a three-hit shutout, the first complete game and first shutout for him since May 8, 2015 against Houston.
