OAKLAND -– The A’s will call up left-hander Eric Surkamp to start Friday at Seattle and not Jesse Hahn, who appeared the early front runner for the assignment.
Surkamp will need to be added to the 40-man roster, but he will join the A’s on Thursday and accompany the team to Seattle after the series finale against the White Sox.
It’s a nice opportunity for the 28-year-old Surkamp, who’s done well for himself since beginning spring training as a long shot to enter the A’s big league picture. He is 4-3 with a 6.47 career ERA in 43 career major league appearances (seven starts), and signed a minor league deal with Oakland in the offseason.
