MESA, Ariz. - One of the A’s brightest young pitching prospects, right-hander Jesus Luzardo, created a memorial fund Friday for the family of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School athletic director Chris Hixon, who was killed Wednesday in the mass shooting at the Parkland, Fla., school.
Luzardo, 20, graduated from Douglas High School two years ago and the Washington Nationals selected him in the third round of the draft.
In a post accompanying the memorial fund, Luzardo said:
I’m writing this with a heavy heart as Parkland is somewhere I have been lucky enough to call home for the past 18 years of my life.
