Matt Chapman took batting practice for the first time since being sidelined by right hand soreness, and it went so well, the A’s third baseman will play at Class-A Stockton on Monday.
“ He hit a few off the back wall in center field, so that tells me enough,” manager Bob Melvin said.
Chapman had one cortisone shot June 18 that was not effective, but the one he got last Monday, between the base of his thumb and wrist, appears to have resolved the discomfort from the carpal boss (bony growth) that caused him problems during spring training and again in mid-June.
