DETROIT – The Oakland Athletics will have a chance for its first road series sweep of the season in Sunday’s series finale after defeating the Detroit Tigers 4-1 for their third consecutive victory.
A’s starter Daniel Mengden threw a seven-inning gem, giving up just one earned run and three hits while collecting five strikeouts. Jurickson Profar snapped a cold streak of 1 for 11 on the current road swing with a three-hit, one-RBI night in which the A’s second baseman also scored. The win was the 15th straight for the A’s over the Tigers.
Mengden gave up two-out walks to Nicholas Castellanos and Miguel Cabrera in the first inning but recovered nicely by forcing Ronny Rodriguez into a pop-out to end the inning.
