PHOENIX – The desire to get lefty Felix Doubront more rest for his ailing right foot was the motivation for the A’s promoting Aaron Brooks and plugging him in to start Saturday night against the Diamondbacks.
Doubront, who has been pushed back to Monday, left his last start after just two innings after taking a comebacker off his right foot and suffering a contusion. He said before Saturday’s game that he still has some soreness in his foot, and that the extra rest will do him good regarding both his pitching and ability to field his position.
As a result, Brooks is back a few days ahead of Tuesday’s September roster expansion, when he likely would have returned anyway.
