DETROIT — A’s designated hitter Khris Davis was scratched from Saturday’s lineup due to discomfort from a lingering left hip contusion suffered in a May 5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Davis told reporters Saturday that the pain “did not flare up again,” but rather, he’s “been just playing through it.”
“Just needed a day to rest,” Davis said.
Davis had played five consecutive games since returning Sunday, going 8-for-20 with a pair of home runs and three RBI in that span.
Despite Monday’s two-home run game — which snapped a 20-game homerless streak — Melvin noted that Davis’ power is not what the A’s have come to expect from the perennial 40-home-run hitter because of the hip issue.
