A’s Josh Phegley done for the season

Josh Phegley’s season is done, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Melvin said before Saturday’s game against the Red Sox that Phegley is out of the hospital after a bout of strep throat plus inflammation in his surgically repaired right knee and he had visited the team Friday evening, “but we won’t see him play again this year, unfortunately.”

Phegley had arthroscopic knee surgery in July and initially had been expected back in a month to six weeks.

Melvin said that Andrew Triggs, who left Friday night’s game after just one inning because of back tightness, was doing a little better Saturday but the team won’t know when he might be available to pitch again until he’s able to throw off a mound.
