HOUSTON - It’s official - Jed Lowrie will be right where he should be next Tuesday, representing the A’s at the All-Star Game in Washington, D.C.
As The Chronicle had reported Monday, Lowrie finished third in the players’ voting behind Jose Altuve of the Astros and Yankees rookie Gleyber Torres, so Lowrie was the automatic replacement for Torres, who is on the disabled list with a hip strain.
Lowrie is Oakland’s first middle infielder to make the All-Star team since Miguel Tejada in 2002, and he’s only the second second baseman, joining Phil Garner, who was an All-Star in 1976.
