SEATTLE – The error that saw a double play grounder scoot under the glove of Ryan Healy in the seventh inning Tuesday, costing the A’s two runs, could be put down to lack of playing time.
Manager Bob Melvin leaned in that direction because Healy has started just one-quarter of the A’s games at third base, Trevor Plouffe doing most of the heavy lifting over there.
“It was a tough deal for him; it’s not all his fault,” the manager said. Melvin has played Healy about as much at first base as at third since the A’s brought Plouffe aboard as a free agent, and had him DH 21 times, including Wednesday’s start.
