SAN DIEGO -- The A's blasted back-to-back homers in consecutive innings in Wednesday afternoon's series finale against the Padres at Petco Park.
Infield prospect Franklin Barreto began the barrage, launching a three-run homer that went a projected 424 feet, according to Statcast™, off Padres starter Joey Lucchesi in the second inning for his first of the year. Catcher Josh Phegley followed it up with his first, tagging Lucchesi for a solo shot that gave the A's a 4-0 advantage.
By the time the A's stepped away from the plate in the third, they had a 7-0 lead in hand, getting consecutive home runs from Mark Canha and Matt Olson off lefty reliever Robbie Erlin as part of a three-run inning.
