In what can only be a rejuvenating development for outfielder Coco Crisp, the A’s longest-tenured player is heading to the Indians.
Oakland, which announced the trade Wednesday morning, sent Crisp and cash to Cleveland for left-handed reliever Colt Hynes. Hynes, 31, is 3-1 with a 3.99 ERA and two saves this season between Double-A and Triple-A affiliates for the Blue Jays and Indians. He will report to Triple-A Nashville, with infielder Joey Wendle being called up to fill Crisp’s vacant roster spot on the A’s.
The money Oakland is sending will cover the bulk of the $2 million or so Crisp is due for the rest of the year and a $750,000 buyout of his 2017 contract, a source told The Chronicle.
