Frankie Montas, wielding an effective two-seam fastball and no longer bouncing between starting and relief assignments, is turning into the pitcher the A’s envisioned when they acquired him from the Dodgers in the Rich Hill-Josh Reddick deal.

Friday at Kansas City, Montas, 25, turned in the best outing of his entire pro career, working eight scoreless innings in Oakland’s16-0 romp.
