A’s fill infield need with versatile power bat from Rangers

OAKLAND — The A’s are joining the rest of America by partaking in a little last-minute shopping before Christmas.

According to Yahoo’s Jeff Passan, the A’s have acquired Jurickson Profar in a three-team deal with the Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays. From the A’s side of things, infield prospect Eli White is heading to the Rangers, while reliever Emilio Pagan and a supplemental draft pick goes to the Rays. The deal comes less than 24 hours after their reported signing of veteran reliever Joakim Soria to a two-year deal.

The trade addresses an infield hole left behind by free agent second baseman Jed Lowrie, whose chance of returning to the A’s coming off a career All-Star year is pretty much over.
