OAKLAND — The A's increasingly imperfect season met up with some near perfection Thursday as the Rangers' Colby Lewis carried a perfect game into the eighth inning and a no-hitter into the ninth, ultimately losing the shutout but winning the game, 5-1.
Lewis' near-perfect game was foiled first by a two-out, four-pitch walk to Yonder Alonso in the eighth inning. The no-hitter evaporated an inning later on Max Muncy's leadoff double off the right field wall just beyond the grasp of Nomar Mazara.Coco Crisp then doubled in front of diving left field Ryan Rua as Muncy came around to break up the shutout.
