The Athletics dropped the first game of the series with the Cardinals, losing a close one by a final of 3-1 at the Coliseum on Jackie Robinson Day.
Right-hander Ross Stripling got the ball to start today’s game. He’s been up and down so far this year in his first three starts but tonight he was solid enough. St. Louis tagged him for a run in the first inning but Stripling settled in after that, allowing only a few hits over the next four innings.
Meanwhile though the Oakland bats were more or less helpless against former A’s ace Sonny Gray.
