ANAHEIM -- The A's were three outs away from capping the regular season in winning fashion, before Chris Hatcher gave up three straight hits, the last a walk-off two-run homer to Taylor Ward in a 5-4 loss at Angel Stadium.
Now the postseason awaits for these A's, who wasted two-run homers by Stephen Piscotty and Franklin Barreto in the finale, which left their record at 97-65. A date with the Yankees in the American League Wild Card Game is set for Wednesday at 5 p.m. PT in New York.
Lefty Brett Anderson gave the A's three innings, allowing two runs ahead of a bullpen takeover.
