A’s drop close one, fall 3-1 to Blue Jays

The Athletics dropped the series opener against the Blue Jays, falling in a close 3-1 matchup that saw a bit of everything you’d see in a ballgame.

Rookie righty Mitch Spence got the ball this evening but clearly came out of the gate on his back foot. It took Toronto just five pitches to take the lead after George Springer launched a leadoff blast. Saw that plenty when he was with Houston, forgot how much it annoys.

On the other side Blue Jays starting pitcher José Berríos got the nod for the home team. Oakland got that run back when rookie infielder Darell Hernaiz connected on a Berrios sinker that didn’t sink and blasting his first career home run, a solo shot to tie this game up:
