With the shortstop position considered particularly deep near the top of this year’s draft class, the A’s indulged Monday.
After taking Richie Martin from the University of Florida with the 20th overall pick, they dipped back into the well and plucked another shortstop in Mikey White from Alabama with the 63rd pick in the second round.
Two players, same position, from the same conference. The SEC might be known more for producing Heisman Trophy**** winners than All-Star infielders, but the quality of baseball played in the conference is absolutely top notch. And that factored into the A’s decision-making.
