The A’s demoted left-handed starter Eric Surkamp Monday, returning him to Triple-A Nashville while promoting right-handed reliever Andrew Triggs from the same team.
Surkamp allowed nine hits and six runs in 4.2 innings Sunday, after which the A’s seem inclined to promote right-handed starter Jesse Hahn to the rotation. If so, he would start Friday in the Coliseum to open a series with the Houston Astros, and the A’s wouldn’t need to call him up before then.
The makeup of the A’s rotation this week, however, is subject to the weather, which is supposed to be wet during a four-game series in Detroit, and a rainout could restructure the look of the rotation.
