The A’s made it official Sunday: Raul Alcantara will come up to start Monday’s game against the Angels and Jharel Cotton will go Wednesday, as The Chronicle had reported Saturday evening.
Manager Bob Melvin said that Alcantara, who had Tommy John surgery in 2014, has worked hard to get this opportunity. “It’s his time,” Melvin said. “I’m excited about watching him (Monday).”
Alcantara, 23, was obtained in the Andrew Bailey deal with Boston before the 2012 season, and Cotton came over in July in the trade that sent Rich Hill and Josh Reddick to the Dodgers.
