A’s closer Blake Treinen — even when he’s bad, he’s good

OAKLAND — Blake Treinen readily admitted he took the mound Friday night without his best stuff.

And yet the end result was the same as it’s been almost every time he’s taken the mound in a save situation.

Game over, A’s win.

If you haven’t noticed, Treinen is putting up numbers that haven’t been seen in Oakland since Dennis Eckersley was winning Cy Young awards and Most Valuable Player trophies.

On the occasion of his 30th birthday, Treinen goes into Satruday’s game against the Cleveland Indians having converted 21 of 23 save opportunities, including the last 18 in succession.
