A's Chris Herrmann provides injury update following knee surgery

OAKLAND – This is not how Chris Herrmann saw his first season in Oakland going.

The veteran catcher signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the A's this offseason, but before he could even play a single game, he had to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

"It's disappointing," Herrmann told NBC Sports California. "This could have been my first year where I've gotten a true shot to play a lot. It sucks. Nobody wants to get hurt to begin the season or get hurt at all, really."

Herrmann, 31, is entering his eighth major league season.
